Today's walk was a very satisfying jaunt involving some wonderful mountain scenery.
We enjoyed some wonderful mountain scenery on today's walk |
The host of our b&b kindly escorted us to the Jakobsweg, which we followed for the rest of the day. It was very well signposted, and easy to navigate. The first few kilometres were alongside a creek (the Murg). The path then meandered through fields and woods, with a bit of climbing, before descending into Fischingen.

Through farms and villages, and into the forest |
There was a bit of a climb through a forest before the scenic descent into Fischingen |
The famous monastery at Fischingen is a popular stopping point for pilgrims passing through. Although we are not pilgrims, we made our way to the monastery and had our picnic lunch there.
Fischingen - a fine lunch spot for Australian long-distance walkers |
From Fischingen the Jakobsweg led us up the Hörnli (1133 metres above sea level), the first mountain of our walk in Switzerland. The effort involved in getting to the top was rewarded with magnificent panoramic views.
Heading for Hörnli |
Unsurprisingly, there was a bit of climbing involved |
Approaching the summit |
The views from the top of the Hörnli were pretty good |
We enjoyed the views from the top |
The descent down the other side was steep but scenic, with wonderful views all the way.
The views on the way down were pretty good too |
This view was particularly appreciated |

The path levelled out at the village of Steg, where we had a refreshment stop. It was only another few kilometres on from there to our day's destination at Gibswil.

Poem of the Day:
THE POWER OF THE POLES
I'm feeling rather fabulous
As I saunter up the slope
(But hang on - ain't that kinda steep?
However will you cope?)
I smile rather sneakily
With a twinkle in my eye
Cause I know of a trick or two
That'll help me to get by.
These hiking poles are marvellous
A wonder to behold
They're sturdy, sleek and powerful
And they're worth their weight in gold.
They slumber in my pack until
A likely slope they spot
They then propel me up the hill
And downwards, at a trot!
So if you're feeling down and out
With aching in your soles,
Don't fret, for you have in your hands
The power of the poles.
What a magnificent day! Love that Pooh Bear is getting more involved, but where are his walking poles and shoes for that matter. I hope VB doesn't find him to heavy to carry. Did PB eat the healthy fruit before it could be photographed?. Loving the Aussie long distance walkers.
ReplyDeleteIt was a magnificent day! Lots of healthy fruit is being consumed - it's cherry season in Switzerland - but we don't usually photograph it here. 😊
