ANOTHER LONG-DISTANCE WALK

After a break of 7 years, including a walk planned for 2020 which had to be cancelled due to Covid, we are preparing for another long-distance walk this year. The plan is to walk from Dieppe, on the English Channel, through parts of France and southern Germany to Konstanz on the Bodensee. From there we will be joined by our younger daughter for a walk across Switzerland to Geneva.

A practice walk
We have prepared much as we did for our previous long-distance walk, by training on some of our local paths.

We will be carrying some of the same equipment we used for our 2016 walk across France, including the backpacks and some of the lightweight, quick-drying clothing.

We have prepared a route which looks interesting on paper, with lots of variety in terms of geography, historical connections,  language, and food and drink.

Our preparation also involved a lot of relevant reading - including books on walking as well as on the history and attractions of some of the places we will be walking through.

We intend to use this blog to record our progress, starting on 17 April when we head out on foot from Dieppe.
The grandchildren helped with some weight-bearing training walks
One last training walk before leaving Australia. Next stop - 17 April in Dieppe.
