DAY 15 - LAON - Rest Day (Monday 1 May)

Today we enjoyed a rest day in the historic town of Laon. There are many attractions here, from the ramparts that surround the town to the 84 listed historical monuments (according to our b&b host). We wandered around the town in the morning, and again in the afternoon. It is a very atmospheric place which is attracting an increasing number of tourists.

With so much history attached to the place, there was something to catch the eye wherever we looked. There were famous architectural sights, like the renowned Gothic cathedral and the impressive St Martin's Church.

There were also interesting streetscapes, and attractive shopfronts.

There were metal street signs, murals on the side of buildings, and a series of figurines placed around the town by a street artist.

Figurines. We were alerted to their presence by our host. They are all placed above street level so you have to look up to see them. Apparently there are 19 in the town - we only found these 6.
There were alleyways to explore, and the town walls to walk along and look out from.

Day 15 - Healthy Fruit. It is a public holiday today in France, and all the bakeries in Laon were closed. Fortunately, our lunch place offered this healthy fruit dish as part of the menu.

    1. Planting wildflowers is a great way to celebrate! We've been enjoying seeing the wildflowers wherever we go and the insects that visit them. We don't have the bumblebee in Australia so we've spent a bit of time watching them.

  3. We passed through Laon last year. Dramatic old town atop the hill, great place to spend a day. Looks like you're travelling well.
