This morning the weather was cold, wet and generally miserable. It rained for the first couple of hours of the day's walk, before clearing to quite a pleasant afternoon.

A cold, wet start to the day's walk |
We navigated out of Flixecourt on quiet roads until we joined up with the GR123, a walking path that led back to the Somme River. The path had turned to gluggy mud in places, which made the going quite tricky. The GR123 also made a point of following the power lines, which are visible in many of today's photos.

That pink umbrella stands out - as do the power lines |
Of course, the rain created lots of puddles, presenting us with opportunities for some creative puddle photography.

We followed the GR123 through the village of Belloy-sur-Somme to Tirancourt, where we rejoined the Somme River. We followed the river all the way into Amiens.

Down to the Somme |
The riverside path into Amiens was well patronised by walkers, cyclists and joggers. They were no doubt attracted by the wonderful sights all along the route.

Today's lunch. The goat cheese was delicious. |

We arrived in Amiens under a sunny sky, with the famous Gothic Cathedral guiding us in. We made our way to our apartment in the centre of town.

Day 6 - Birds (we have had mallards and great crested grebes before, but the ducklings are so cute, and can you ever have too many great crested grebes?) |
