We started the day with a stroll around St-Valéry-sur-Somme |
We had another short day's walk in front of us today, so we were happy to spend a couple of hours exploring the sights of St-Valéry-sur-Somme.
|
We found the memorial to William the Conqueror, who set out from St-Valéry-sur-Somme to conquer England in 1066. |
Our wanderings took us along the banks of the Somme River, and up into the medieval city.

Joan of Arc stayed at St-Valéry-sur-Somme in 1430 on the way to her trial in Rouen. |
By mid-morning we were leaving the town, making our way along the combined cycle/ walking path by the Somme. We took on a few more of the sights of St-Valéry-sur-Somme on the way.
|
A few more sights as we left on our day's walk |
We went roughly halfway to Abbeville on a Voie Verte, a combined cycling and walking path which joins the two towns. The scenery was quite pleasant, and as we were following the river upstream there were constant water views.

Following the riverside Voie Verte south towards Abbeville |
After a while we diverged from the Voie Verte and continue into Abbeville on the GR800, and then a riverside path which took us into the town. After settling in to our accommodation, we went out for dinner before preparing our route for tomorrow.
