Early morning sun over the Eiger and the Kleine Scheidegg |
After the rigours of yesterday's climb, we enjoyed a very restful rest day in Grindelwald. We had a couple of short walks through the village, but otherwise just stayed in our hotel room and soaked in the view from our balcony.
We had amazing views from our balcony. The peaks here are the Little Schreckhorn and the Schreckhorn |
We could see back to the Wetterhorn and the Grosse Scheidegg, which we had crossed the day before |
With views like these we would have been happy to sit on our balcony all day |
When we did wander out to see the village and organise supplies for lunch, dinner and chocolate, we found the views just as impressive |
We had a bit of a wander around Grindelwald. It was quite busy, with tourists of all nationalities coming and going, and English being widely spoken |
After our sightseeing, we carried our supplies back up to our hotel |
Australian long-distance walker carrying lunch, dinner and chocolate supplies, with the Eiger and the Kleine Scheidegg in the background |
The path to our hotel was generally uphill |
Back on the balcony, we tucked in to some healthy fruit |
Some of us tried our hand at sketching |
And we settled in to admire the views |
And what views they were |
Late afternoon sun on the Eiger |
More mountain views |
Wonderful views whichever way you look |
The sun was setting. Still not tired of the view. |
A wonderful rest day in the mountains is coming to a close |
So it's goodbye for now |
Oh, all right, maybe just one more photo |

Poem of the Day:
PAST AND FUTURE
When I was nine my sister led us up a route
Full of peril and adventure, and we all had a hoot
It was narrow
It was ruggered
It was up high
We were buggered
It was slippery
There was snow
And if we fell?
Oh my, no!
Today from the balcony I looked up at the Kleine
Scheidegg
And I sketched with head full of memories, and
visions of tomorrow's leg
