DAY 21 - BOUZY to FAGNIÈRES (Sunday 7 May)

Today was a rather straightforward day of walking in intermittent showers, mostly alongside the Canal Latéral à la Marne. We started by wandering the streets of Bouzy, collecting food supplies and seeing the sights of the village.

From Bouzy it was a short stroll through the fields to the town of Condé-sur-Marne, where we joined the canal we were to follow for most of today's walk.

Condé-sur-Marne has one of those self-service food facilities that we are now seeing regularly. This rabbit pâté with Calvados was among the offerings here.
The path along the canal was similar to several we had already walked - flat, well-surfaced, and providing wonderful opportunities for atmospheric photos.

As usual, we were keeping an eye out for the interesting local flora and fauna on our route.

The canal-side path is part of a Véloroute (long-distance cycle path) linking Prague with Paris. For some of its length, it is also the route of both the Via Francigena and the Chemin de St Jacques. There were several facilities along the way to cater for the numbers of walkers and cyclists who use the path - benches, picnic tables, and even rubbish bins. We took advantage of these facilities for our refreshment stops during the day.

After a few hours walking by the canal,  we arrived in the town of Châlons-en-Champagne. There we left the canal and made our way to our accommodation in the neighbouring village of Fagnières.
